Contract Talks

The Commission on the Los Angeles Grocery Industry and Community Health was formed to examine conditions in one of the city’s largest and most important economic sectors. The Commission, which brings together faith, business, elected and health care leaders from diverse backgrounds, was established at the request of the Los Angeles Grocery Workers and Community Health Coalition, an alliance of community, labor and faith-based organizations dedicated to ensuring that the grocery industry continues to be a source of stable, middle-class employment and that the industry serves the needs of residents in all parts of the city.

Public Hearing
On January 31, 2007, the Commission held a public hearing and heard testimonies from health care experts, academics, community leaders and health care workers. Topics included the sharp decline in health care coverage for grocery workers and the decreasing number of quality grocers in impoverished neighborhoods. This testimony is the basis of a new report Industry at a Crossroads. Below are links to bios of the commission members.
